Mondraker foxy 2019

Choosing the bike size depends on the type of bike, your height, your riding style, and your preference. A correct fitting bike will be more comfortable, more efficient and more fun to ride. This bike size guide gives our customers general advice on choosing the right size. To get started, think about your style of riding, measure your height and use the links above for sizing on relevant bike types.

To find the correct sized bike you will need to measure your height and your inside leg. For your height, stand against a wall and mark the wall with a pencil so it's level with the top of your head. Then measure from the ground up to the mark having someone to help might make this easier.

For your inside leg measurement, stand against a wall and using a book hold it in between your legs into your groin and make sure it's flat against the wall. Measure the height from the book to the floor. Again it might be easier to get a friend to help. If your height is on the cusp of the size range, your reach is often the deciding factor in which size to go for. To find out if you have short or long reach you will need to measure your ape index. This is your arm span minus your height.

If you have a positive ape index then go for the larger size, or if you have a negative ape index go for a smaller size. What type of bike you choose will affect the bike size you buy. The type or style of riding that you do will also affect which size you need. For example a mountain biker that wants to ride more aggressively and would like a more manoeuvrable bike may prefer a size smaller than they would normally take.

Likewise a cross country racer that is looking for a flatter and speedier mountain bike may prefer a size larger than they would normally take. There is no definitive right or wrong size, it all comes down to personal preference and what feels comfortable. Bikes are measured by their seat tube length. This measurement is normally from the centre of the bottom bracket BB or the centre of the bolt that attached the crank arms.

This differs by brand, some measure to the top of where the top tube meets the seat tube, or even the centre of the top tube. Mountain bikes are either measured in inches or descriptive sizes small, medium etc. Road bikes are in centimetres or descriptive sizes where as Hybrid bikes can be any one of the three. Bikes also get longer as they go up in size relative to the frame size but different brands can be inherently longer or shorter than others. Stand over height is how tall the frame is from the ground.

Stand over height measurements are to the top of the top-tube. Ideally you want at least 2cm of clearance between you and the frame. In theory your stand over height is your leg measurement minus 2cm. It it worth measuring your inside leg with your shoes on so you can establish your stand over height. Should you need to jump off the saddle quickly, the clearance between you and the frame will prevent any injuries. Specifications Product Mondraker Foxy Review This Product. Norco Sight C3 The Latest. Bike of the Day: NS Eccentric 3.

Schralp and Destroy - Daily Shot 1. Most Popular. Bike of the Day: NS Eccentric 3 At the heart of the Foxy 29 is a rather sleek and well-proportioned carbon fibre frame, but as ever, Mondraker's calling card is the long-reach, short stem Forward Geometry. The bike sports mm of rear-wheel travel from the multi-link Zero suspension system, while up at the front there's a mm of bounce on offer. While that seems like a fair chunk of travel, the Foxy feels much more like a lithe and fast longer-travel trail bike than a heavy-duty rock smashing enduro slugger.

There's a touch more anti-squat in the rear suspension setup compared to the now discontinued b wheeled Foxy Carbon I previously tested and that shows in the way the bike pedals, with superb manners when you're getting on the power. The trade-off is that it's not quite as plush and supple elsewhere, though there's a good amount of progression to the rear suspension and there's good support throughout the travel that allows you to gauge traction.

I personally prefer that to a super hard, harsh and precise bike that'll twitch from one thing to another, but super hard or heavy riders should probably be looking at the longer-travel Super Foxy for their thrills.

Mondraker Foxy Carbon XR review

It's a perfectly functional unit that was entirely reliable during the test period, but when you're spending this sort of money you'd have a right to expect something branded - and longer travel than mm - from the likes of Fox or RockShox. It's a similar story with the wheelset, which is from DT Swiss. The same goes for the SRAM Code brakes, which get a mm rotor up front and an mm item at the back. They're prodigiously powerful and offer decent feel but they're the entry-level R spec units rather than the more adjustable higher-end items.

Still, when you focus on the ride rather than the kit, the Foxy Carbon delivers the goods. The extra length in the bike means you're less likely to be punted too far forward or backwards when the gradient changes or the grounds starts knocking you about, allowing you to focus on picking your lines rather than just holding on for dear life. While Mondraker's reach figures might be radical, the bike runs a I found shoving the saddle forwards on the rails a fair bit on my medium bike meant I could get a decently forwards position for front-wheel traction climbing, but it's an effect that's compounded as you go up frame sizes.

Still, the bike can more than handle itself when you start descending. Some of that is certainly down to the lithe chassis and suspension setup, but the relatively skinny rubber also makes me feel this is a bike more pitched at rapid trail riding rather than sending it hard on big terrain. Maxxis has both ends covered with a 2.

The heart of the Foxy Carbon 29 is an excellent frame with confidence-inspiring geometry and particularly perky pedalling manners. If you want to cover a wide range of terrain - from big all-day stuff to steep smash'n'grab techy trails - then it's a very capable machine that won't disappoint, even if it doesn't feel like it shares quite the same trail-smashing ability as some bikes at this travel, or indeed it's smaller wheeled ex-sibling. However, the price is rather hard to swallow when it feels like there's been quite a bit of cost-saving in some areas.

While many brands are transitioning their The frame features sleek internal routing and a flat top tube that even makes the bike look light and fast.

Known for pushing the envelope when it comes to long bikes, Mondraker uses a concept they call Forward Geometry. One of the most obvious manifestations of Forward Geometry is a longer reach: mm on the size XL I tested. To put the reach into perspective, when Singletracks looked at 29er enduro geometry just 7 months ago, the average reach for a size large was mm compared to mm for a similarly sized Foxy RR 29er.

The Foxy 29er is even more slack degree head tube angle than the previous, An optional geometry kit adds a flip chip to make the bike even more slack by a degree.

Bible Review: Mondraker Foxy 29 Carbon RR | $7,200

Chainstays are relatively short at mm. Mondraker keeps the bottom bracket on the high end at mm. But as soon as I dropped the post, I could tell it felt different. An oversized lever makes operating the post super easy.

The Foxy RR 29 is designed for 1X drivetrains only, which might be a turnoff to some, but most should be more than happy with the Eagle drivetrain and the lever-style dropper post remote.

Rounding out the build are DT Swiss wheels with 30mm internal width rims and Maxxis tires. Both tires feature EVO protection and are set up tubeless. All told, the RR build scrapes just under 30 lbs, with an official weight of But what I failed to mention is the lift line was really long at the bottom, so we decided to ride uphill to catch the mid-mountain chair to save some time.

Crazy, I know. In loose conditions, a wandery front wheel becomes readily apparent, and while I did pick up on a little wanderlust, the Foxy held its line for the most part. The light weight and the steep seat tube angle make the Foxy a very reasonable climber.

I could certainly see myself taking this bike on an all day epic and not cursing the big climbs. Turning the bike downhill, it is amazing what mm of dropper post travel can do to transform a bike. From a comfortable, and powerful pedaling position, I instantly felt like I was riding in the bike, and ready to tackle the steeps. And on the Gypsy trail, we definitely found the steeps. This late in the season, bike parks like Northstar are a mess of braking bumps and powder-filled holes.

mondraker foxy 2019

The big wheels do a good job straddling and rolling over bumps and holes to smooth out the ride in concert with the suspension. Overall the suspension felt fairly progressive, offering nice suppleness at the beginning of the stroke, then ramping up quickly for the big and often unexpected on my part hits. The Gypsy trail offers up plenty of rockwork and wooden features, and despite being such a long bike, the Foxy handled even the techiest maneuvers with ease. The relatively short chainstays seem to make up for the big wheels, and I found I could get good precision even at slow speeds.

Toward the bottom of the mountain, things open up and the Foxy was an absolute blast. The long reach and wheelbase makes the bike feel super stable and honestly did most of the work for me. I found myself letting off the brakes more and more, confident the Foxy 29er could handle whatever was up ahead. The Mondraker Foxy RR climbs well and it absolutely slays fast, wide-open descents.

The OnOff dropper post seems to have its own collar system built-in.Northstar has some awesome trails, ranging from super rocky, technical trails that were covered in moondust to flowy jump trails that were also covered in moondust. Normally, Blister tries to get as much time on a bike as we realistically can so that we have time to play around with setup, get comfortable with the fit, and hopefully reveal any durability issues that might arise.

Traits that might not be obvious when the bikes are ridden weeks or months apart become evident. But Mondraker had their fleet at Interbike, and the brand spanking new Foxy 29 seemed like a great way to get acquainted with the brand. Mondraker was a pioneer in stretching out the front of their bikes, and a lot of other companies have followed suit.

Even so, the Foxy RR is long even by modern standards, and I was pretty interested to see how that played out. Of the 29er models, the RR sits in the middle of the lineup. These are not the bikes of the proletariat. But at least for that chunk of change, you get a pretty nice build.

For tires, the Foxy 29 comes with a 2.

Mondraker Foxy Carbon 29 - Stunning Ride, Disappointing Value

For drier conditions, this is a great tire setup. Rounding out the build, parts from Onoff make up most of the cockpit — The Foxy RR has an Onoff stem, handlebar, dropper post, headset, and grips. The Medium Foxy 29 that I rode has a mm reach measurement, and a mm top tube length.

So the front end of the frame gets longer, but a short stem brings the bars back a bit closer to the rider. And I was expecting that to feel pretty weird and take some getting used to on the trail. And getting back into those numbers, we find a bike that is, in fact, pretty dang long. The Foxy stays in line with modern trends and has a fairly steep That long front end combined with an average-ish rear end and head tube angle leads to a decidedly long wheelbase — mm on a size Medium, which is pretty huge.

And once I got out on the trail, those initial parking-lot impressions more or less held true. To put all of that another way: if I want to ride aggressively and go fast, I try to keep my weight pretty far forward on a bike to help keep traction on the front tire.

Chakravartin ashoka samrat cast sushim

By stretching out the front end, the neutral, standing position is quite far forward. The other upside of that long front end is that it makes the bike looong, and that makes the bike stable. Riding in Northstar, there are plenty of rock gardens where line choice matters.

And the nice thing here is that the bike gains stability through its length, but it retains a bit of slower-speed maneuverability with that slightly steeper-than-average head angle. The Foxy wants to put you in that forward, aggressive position for both situations, and everything in between. The bike feels pretty efficient in all situations — mellow pedaling up a fire road reveals not much pedal bob, and laying down some power in a sprint yields some snappy forward progress.

In the middle of the stroke, however, things felt pretty supportive, and that leads to a poppier-feeling bike. As a side note, that more linear-feeling suspension makes me a bit suspicious of the Foxy XR, which comes equipped with a coil shock. In regards to the suspension, the Foxy shares some similarities with the Yeti 5. On one hand, it has this long front end that puts you in an aggressive, attack position pretty much all the time. But on the other hand, it has this suspension that wants to pop off of everything.

Iclassfixture constructor parameter

Which left me a little conflicted — I felt like I should be trying to pin the bike through everything and attack rock gardens with reckless abandon. But I actually enjoyed the bike a bit more on mellower trails where I was popping off of every little bump, and trying to hold manuals through rollers.

But I think the more accurate view would be that the bike is a bit more versatile than first impressions might let on — it has the geometry to run down technical trails at mach ridiculous. Always enjoy your reviews Noah. Great review and close to my experience having owned a foxy 29 R for over 6 months now.Wide, with an emphasis on wide, open terrain is what the Foxy 29 likes, arcing spaciously unrestricted broad turns.

The Foxy 29 is not a value. So how bad is it? You either pendulum off the side and dig side knobs incisively in, or angle the bike beneath you and arc an ample, appealing radius.

You mean we have to recite our times tables while jumping rope? At speed coming down our rock-strewn, shelfy, speedy fireroad, the Foxy was planted. The terrain is yours to devour. But on a tight singletrack with serpentine twists and disheveled terrain punctuating turns? Well, the trail eats the Foxy whole. Practiced cornering artists questioned their aptitude and pecking order in the universe. They just washed out.

At Bible we test a lot of bikes on a lot of the same loops so something significantly different really stands out, and the Foxy 29 really stood out. Speed, cornering and bumping over square edges unperturbed, all occurring simultaneously? Every pedal stroke munchingly moves you forward, biting at the ground.

One tester mentioned it has a VPP-esque feel to it without the chain-tension and anti-squat-activated firming. But, once engaged and at speed in a straight line, it does its job without complaining. Along comes value.

The Foxy 29 RR wheelbase is 12 millimeters shorter than that of the Yeti SB but has 30 millimeters more in its toptube. The Mondraker Foxy is an all-mountain trail bike that packs athletic all-around performance into mm of Fox Factory suspension. The Zero suspension system eats up the bumps, keeps traction through choppy corners, and supports you up climbs, giving this bike true all-mountain cred.
